Bridal shower games that aren't lame: 11 printable games with how to run each, how many to plan, and why skipping games entirely is a good choice.

Search “bridal shower games” and you will see the same list: dress the bride in toilet paper, taste mystery food, a long bingo that goes on for an hour. Many of those games are a little embarrassing and take longer than they are worth. This guide is about the opposite: short games that guests can play in their seats, that do not make anyone perform, and that give people something to talk about.

It also says something most game lists do not: games are optional. A shower with food, a toast, advice cards and gift opening is a complete shower. If you are planning the whole day, start with the step-by-step guide and see the hub for everything else.

What Makes a Game Not Lame

A game works at a bridal shower when it meets most of these:

  • It is short. Ten minutes or less, with a clear end
  • It is about the bride, not about how silly guests are willing to be
  • It can be played in a seat, or while mingling, with a pen and a card
  • It does not single anyone out, and nobody has to perform or touch anyone else
  • It has a clear winner, so a small prize makes sense
  • It is easy to explain in one sentence

If a game fails two of these, skip it.

How Many Games to Plan

One or two for a three hour shower, plus an optional quiz. Two for a two hour shower. Add the time to the schedule with the timeline generator, which lets you choose the number of games and the quiz and shows how much time is left for mingling.

Tell the bride what you plan. A bride who dislikes being the center of attention will prefer the games that run in the background.

The Games

1. Who Knows the Bride Best

A quiz about the bride. The host writes a set of questions with the bride’s help (where did we meet, what is her favorite food, what was her first car), guests answer on a card, and the person with the most right answers wins. It is the best game for a group where the guests know the bride well. In our Host Kit the quiz is personalised: you type the answers once and it prints its own answer key. Allow 10 minutes.

2. Bingo

Each guest has a card with a grid of squares. They mark a square when they see or hear it: the bride laughing, a gift from the registry, a toast, someone crying. It runs in the background through the whole shower, so it costs no schedule time. The Host Kit includes 30 different cards, so a room of 30 does not have to share.

3. Trivia

A set of questions about the couple, about weddings or about the bride’s life. Read each question aloud, and guests write answers. It works well for a mixed group because anyone can guess. Keep it to ten questions.

4. Bride or Groom

Read a statement (“who said I love you first,” “who is the better cook,” “who is always late”) and guests hold up a card for the bride or the groom. The bride can announce the answer. It is fast and gets people laughing without anybody having to perform. Allow 10 minutes.

5. Word Scramble

A sheet of wedding words with the letters mixed up (BOUQUET, VEIL, TOAST). Guests unscramble as many as they can in five minutes. Quiet, in a seat, and easy to run while food is being cleared.

A grid of hidden wedding words. Hand them out at the door as a first activity for guests who arrive early. It also works as a table game for children if any are invited.

7. A-to-Z

Guests write a word or an idea for each letter of the alphabet for the bride: advice, wishes, honeymoon places, date ideas. It gives you something to read aloud, and the sheets go to the bride afterward.

8. Pass the Bouquet

A group game played like musical chairs. Guests pass a small bouquet or a prop while music plays, and when it stops, the person holding it answers a question or does a small task. It works best with a smaller group and a host who keeps it moving.

9. Phone Scavenger Hunt

Guests get a list of things to find or photograph at the shower: a selfie with the bride, a photo of someone’s favorite dish, a photo of a guest with the same shoes. It gets guests who do not know each other talking, and it produces photos for the bride. Allow 10 to 15 minutes, running while people eat.

10. Would She Rather

A list of this-or-that questions that the bride answers in advance (“would she rather go to the beach or the mountains”). Guests guess her answers. The bride reveals them at the end. Quick to run and easy to add to.

11. Draw-It

Guests draw a wedding-related word, and the others guess, in pairs or in teams. It is the one game on this list that needs a little performing, so skip it if the group is shy or the guests are older.

Games to Skip

Skip games that involve toilet paper dresses, passing food between people’s mouths, tasting mystery food, or any game about the couple’s private life. Skip games that need long explanations. And skip any game the bride said she does not want. If a game is a coin flip, drop it. Nobody remembers the game that was not played.

Prizes

A small prize is enough: a candle, a pack of cards, a small plant, a candy bar. If you do not want prizes, play for fun.

Running a Game Well

A good game fails if the host runs it badly, and most of the work is about five small habits:

  • Explain it in one sentence, then start. If you need two minutes of rules, choose a different game.
  • Hand out the pens and cards first, so the rules and the supplies arrive together.
  • Set a time limit out loud, such as “five minutes,” and stick to it.
  • Announce the answers briskly, and let guests who got it right enjoy it.
  • End it while people are still enjoying it. Cutting a game short is better than letting it fade.

Print more cards than guests. People lose pens and spill drinks, and a spare is easier than a delay.

Putting Them Together

A simple plan for three hours: bingo cards on the tables as guests arrive, the “Who knows the bride best” quiz after the food, and a phone scavenger hunt running in the background if the group does not know each other. Finish with toasts, cake and gifts. If you prefer to skip games entirely, replace them with the advice cards. The Host Kit has ten of these games with answer keys and the quiz, and the Everything Kit adds a big-screen game show. They are optional extras, and every game above works with pen and paper.

Frequently asked questions

What are bridal shower games that are not lame?
The games people tolerate least are the ones that embarrass a guest or take a long time to explain. The ones that work are short, can be played while mingling, and are about the bride rather than about the guests. A quiz about the bride, bingo played over brunch, a phone scavenger hunt and Would She Rather all fit. Each is described below with how long it takes.
Do I have to have games at a bridal shower?
No. Many hosts skip them entirely, and a shower of food, a toast, advice cards and gifts is a complete shower. If you are unsure, plan one or two short activities and drop them if the party is going well without them. Tell the bride what you plan, because she may have strong feelings about games.
How many games should I plan for a 2 or 3 hour shower?
One or two games of about 10 minutes each fit comfortably in 3 hours, plus a quiz about the bride if you want one. Two is plenty for a 2 hour shower. Games that run in the background, such as bingo or an advice card, cost almost no schedule time because guests do them while mingling.
What are good printable bridal shower games?
Bingo, trivia about the bride, Bride or Groom, a word scramble, a word search, an A-to-Z list, Would She Rather and a phone scavenger hunt are all easy to print and need only pens. Our Host Kit has these and more, with answer keys. Play only the ones that suit your group.
How do I run the 'Who knows the bride best' quiz?
The host writes the questions and the right answers ahead of time, with the bride's help. Guests answer on a card, then swap cards and mark them against the answer key read aloud. The most correct answers wins. In our Host Kit, you type the answers once and the quiz prints its own answer key, so the host does not have to write it separately.
What is a good game for a group that does not know each other?
A phone scavenger hunt or a name-matching bingo. Both make guests talk to each other, and neither requires anyone to perform. Avoid games that need people to know the bride's family or friends well, since half the room will be guessing.
