    What to buy

How the quantities are worked out

The calculator first sizes one pour. We assume a flute holds about 187.5 ml (roughly 6.3 oz), which is the size that makes a 750 ml bottle serve exactly 6 classic mimosas: 187.5 × 2 ÷ 3 = 125 ml of sparkling wine each, and 750 ÷ 125 = 6. The ratio you choose divides that pour between bubbly and juice, so a 3:1 pour is 140.6 ml of sparkling wine and a 1:1 pour is 93.75 ml.

Then it counts the guests who will drink alcohol (guests × the share you chose, rounded up) and multiplies by the drinks per hour and the hours. For example, 30 guests, 70% drinking, 1 drink an hour for 3 hours: 21 drinkers × 1 × 3 = 63 mimosas. At the classic ratio that is 63 × 125 ml = 7,875 ml of sparkling wine, which is 10.5 bottles and rounds up to 11. The other 9 guests get 9 × 1 × 3 = 27 alcohol-free servings, which is 27 × 125 ml = 3,375 ml, or 4.5 bottles and rounds up to 5. Juice is the same for both groups: 90 servings × 62.5 ml = 5,625 ml, or 5.625 litres, which the calculator shows rounded up to 5.7 L and splits across your juices.

    Ice, flutes and garnish

Ice is one pound per guest, a starting point that covers chilling bottles and cartons in a tub as well as a glass of juice. Flutes are one per guest plus 25 percent spare, because people set a glass down and take a fresh one. Garnish is one piece per drink, such as a berry, a citrus twist or an orange wheel. All three are planning estimates, not rules.

    Serving responsibly

Put food out before or with the drinks, keep water on the table, and tell guests when the bar closes. Make the alcohol-free bubbly as inviting as the real one, in the same glass with the same garnish, so a guest who is pregnant, driving or not drinking is not singled out. Check your venue's policy on bringing alcohol and follow the legal drinking age where you live.

    What this does not know

It cannot know your guests. A morning crowd drinks differently from an evening one, and a group that is also having a big brunch drinks slower than one with only snacks. Buy sparkling wine you can return or keep if the store allows it, and round juice and alcohol-free bubbly up. The budget calculator shows what the drinks will cost against your total.

    Questions

How many bottles of champagne or prosecco do I need for a mimosa bar?
As a planning estimate, one 750 ml bottle of sparkling wine makes about 6 classic mimosas (2 parts sparkling wine to 1 part juice). Multiply the number of guests who will drink alcohol by how many drinks each person has per hour and by the hours of the shower, then divide by 6. The calculator does that for you and rounds up to whole bottles. A lighter ratio with more sparkling wine per glass gets fewer glasses from a bottle, and a juicier ratio gets more.
How much orange juice do I need?
Each pour in this calculator is about 187 ml (roughly 6.3 oz). A classic 2:1 mimosa uses about 62 ml of juice, so 100 mimosas need about 6.3 litres. The total is split across the number of juice flavours you pick and rounded up, and it includes the juice for the alcohol-free drinks too. Fresh juice is more perishable than shelf-stable cartons, so buy the cartons ahead and the fresh juice close to the day.
How many drinks does each guest have?
There is no reliable rule, so the default of one drink per drinker per hour is a planning estimate, and you can change it. A morning crowd may drink less than an evening one. If you are unsure, plan a little high on juice and non-alcoholic bubbles, which keep, and closer on sparkling wine, unless your store takes back unopened bottles.
What should I serve guests who do not drink?
Offer a real alternative, not just water. An alcohol-free sparkling wine, sparkling cider or sparkling juice poured the same way and in the same glass lets a guest who is pregnant, driving or simply not drinking join in. Set it on the same table and label it clearly. The calculator counts alcohol-free servings separately and gives you a bottle count for them.
How do I serve alcohol responsibly at a shower?
Serve food alongside the drinks and keep water on the table, set a firm end to the bar when the shower ends, and make sure nobody drives who should not. Check the rules for your venue, since some do not allow outside alcohol, and follow the legal drinking age where you live. The point of a mimosa bar is a relaxed toast, not volume.
Does anything I type leave my device?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.
