      How the schedule is built

      Each part of the day has a fixed length: arrivals 20 minutes, welcome 5, food 40, each game 10, cake and photos 15, the diaper raffle draw 5, gift opening 30 and goodbyes 10. The generator adds up the parts you chose and subtracts that from the length of your shower. Whatever is left becomes an open mingling block placed right after the food, so there is room for seconds and conversation. If the parts add up to more than the shower, the schedule still prints, runs past your end time and tells you by how many minutes.

      For example, a 1:00 pm start with a 3 hour shower, three games, gifts and the raffle adds up to 155 minutes, leaving 25 minutes of open mingling. Arrival runs 1:00 to 1:20, food from 1:25 to 2:05, mingling to 2:30, games to 3:00, cake to 3:15, the raffle to 3:20, gifts to 3:50 and goodbyes to 4:00.

      The planning countdown

      The countdown subtracts whole weeks from the shower date: 8, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 week out, then 2 days, 1 day and the day itself. Any milestone that already fell before today is marked so you can do it now or skip it. If your shower is closer than 8 weeks, start from the first date still ahead and combine the earlier items.       The block lengths are our own planning estimates. A talkative group needs a longer welcome, a small group eats faster, and a guest of honor who loves her gifts will want more than 30 minutes. Use the schedule as a first draft, then change the choices on the left until it matches the day you can picture.

      What does a 3 hour baby shower timeline look like?
      A typical 3 hour shower opens with 20 minutes of arrivals and mingling, a 5 minute welcome, about 40 minutes for food, a stretch of games, cake and photos, a short diaper raffle draw, 30 minutes of gift opening and 10 minutes of goodbyes. The generator lays these out from your start time, and any time left over becomes open mingling so the day does not feel rushed.
      Should food come first or later at a baby shower?
      Serving food first suits showers that start at a meal time, since hungry guests are not paying attention to games. Putting games first suits showers that start mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and it gives latecomers time to arrive before the food is out. Pick whichever matches your start time, and the generator reorders the schedule for you.
      How long should gift opening take?
      This tool plans 30 minutes, which is a reasonable allowance for around 15 to 25 gifts if you move briskly. A guest of honor who reads every card aloud will need longer. If time is tight, switching gift opening off saves the most of any option and some hosts open gifts privately afterward.
      How many baby shower games should I plan for a 2 or 3 hour shower?
      Three games of about 10 minutes each fit comfortably in 3 hours. Two is plenty for a 2 hour shower. Games that run in the background, such as a guessing jar or a diaper raffle, cost almost no schedule time because guests do them while mingling.
      When should I send baby shower invitations?
      The planning countdown puts invitations at 4 weeks out, which is a common window of 4 to 6 weeks. Earlier is fine for an out-of-town crowd or a holiday weekend. Set the RSVP date about 2 weeks before so you can finalize the food count.
